Technical and Institutional Support in the area of solid waste management in Southern Moldova

Solid Waste Management Concepts finalized with the assistance of the Czech experts in Causeni and Cimislia regions, Republic of Moldova (November 2015)

In the third year of the project „Technical and Institutional Support in the area of solid waste management in Southern Moldova“, technical designs of two regional solid waste landfills have been finalized.  These landfills are located on the sites selected during the previous stages of the project.  Technical designs for the transfer stations have also been finalized.  Environmental Impact Assessment Study for both sites have been accomplished and handed over to the local authorities for the final approval. 

The Solid Waste Management Concept for both sub-regions have been finalized and also presented to the recipient of the project. This Concept describes situation and perspectives in the area of the solid waste management in both sub-regions.

The awareness raising campaign was also accomplished, this specifically tailored campaign took place in all schools in both sub-regions, more than 1.000 students participated.  Within this campaign, students developed tens of really original works in the area of environment and applied ecology.  These works were presented by students themselves during public meetings.

The project „Technical and Institutional Support in the area of solid waste management in Southern Moldova“ was initiated during autumn 2013.  The objective of this project is to identify suitable sites for regional solid waste landfills, more specifically in the area of Leova, Besarabeasca, Cimislia (sub-region 1) and Causeni and Stefan Vody (sub-region 2).

This project is implemented in close co-operation with the German Agency for International Development (GiZ), within the frame of the GOPA managed project „Modernisation of local public services“.  The Czech Development Agency was officially invited by the recipient of the project (Ministry of the Environment of the Republic of Moldova) to consider the possibility to involve part of the Gagauz Autonomous Region into this project, at the end of 2015.
